Whether you’re new to a plant-based diet and looking for meat substitutes, or looking for plant-based meat alternatives to share with family and friends, it can be helpful to find replacements to help keep you on track. Fake meat in the frozen section, however, is often highly processed, and lacking in the nutrients that whole plant foods provide. Not only is it possible to find whole food meat substitutes, but these foods will actually take on more flavor than “fake” meats.
1.) Green Jackfruit: Jackfruit is native to South and Southeast Asia, and is a sweet fruit when eaten ripe. Green jackfruit however, has a meatier texture and takes on the flavor of whatever spices and seasonings it’s cooked with. You can find jackfruit in most Asian markets, and health/natural food stores.
