Nelson's 11/16/18 Update

Nelson's 11/16/18 Update

I am sitting here today watching a cold afternoon rain, which isn’t feeling so bad after an abnormally warm fall.  And anything Nature throws my way works for me; it’s all beautiful.

We have not been good about sticking to our newsletter schedule, and for that I apologize.  I can assure you, though, it’s for good reason.  We have made exciting progress, beyond what we were envisioning even 30 days ago.  The skies have opened for us in a way we did not see coming.

We have found a partner fully aligned with our mission and values, and deep in resources, to collaborate in the launch of our community campaign model in a large city.  This effort will focus on underserved neighborhoods, demonstrating our community action model in a way that will inspire people across the country.  Our hope is to begin scaling this model to other communities next year after we get some traction with our initial project.

We are still in the early stages of this collaboration, but I should have more detail to report as early as the end of the year.

As many of you know, we are committed to a grassroots movement strategy that will not only bring the plant-based nutrition message to more people everywhere, but also communicate important environmental, social, and political ideas.  I think it’s important to make our argument bigger; there are many issues connected with our plant-based nutrition message, and I believe we fall short when we fail to articulate these connections in a way that could inspire more people to join with us.

I also like the idea of grassroots change because I don’t believe a small group of leaders at the top, whether in the plant-based community, government, industry, or anywhere else, are the most important agents of change. We all can be agents of change given the right conditions, and when we all engage in change, that’s when transformative things can happen.

I hope you continue to stay tuned.  We have been quiet lately because we have been working hard, sometimes I think too hard, but it’s all been worth it.

Until next time,

Nelson

So appreciate all you do, I just don’t know how you persevere. I get so discouraged when the people who most need to hear this message, want nothing to do with it, and confuse the message with the messenger.

In my experience, politicians do not lead. The very best of them follow very closely behind the people at the fore front of new ideas.

Grassroots movements are the way we are going to take this country back from the oligarchs and the companies that are killing us with their “food” products. They, with Big Pharma, don’t stand a chance with the people finding their voices and their hearts. Keep up the good work, Nelson!

Good news Nelson! I hope you design within your overall initiative a research project with measurable outcomes that you can use for both popular-press and peer-review publications.

Best wishes to you and your whole family

Jeff

I had a nice weekend with my family at the NC coast this week.  I have been coming to this beach since I was two years old, so this is like a second home to me . . . and I am acutely aware that its days are numbered.

The nonprofit PlantPure Communities (PPC) held a webinar this week for people wanting to learn more about the Pod Network, and what is involved in becoming a Pod leader.  Their presentation included two Pod leaders sharing their experiences.  It’s gratifying to see the good being done through the Pod Network, and how quickly it’s growing.

Our partners at SOMOS Community Care in New York City are making great progress.  SOMOS is validating a program we created that enables physicians to prescribe to their patients a 10-day education and food supported immersion.  We call this our PlantPure Rx Program
