Cooking Not Your Thing? We’ve Got Something for You!

So you’ve seen the movie, PlantPure Nation. You’re totally on board with the message, and hey, it’s a new year: what better time to embark on a new lifestyle and ultimately, a new you? Except there’s just one teeny tiny problem: Cooking just isn’t your thing. And you’re worried that it’s going to be nearly impossible to stay plant-based without spending at least some quality time in the kitchen, and probably not in front of the microwave. Never fear; you’re not alone. Not by a long shot! In fact, we realized we had several non-cooks on our staff. Some of us (yes, I’m one of the non-cooks) can cook, but we don’t like to. We’re busy with life and might not have...

In Season: Oranges

This time of year is tough. All the holiday parties are over, the gifts have been opened (and in some cases returned), the family has been gathered and been seen off, and all the goodies eaten. And there are still months of winter ahead of us. If you’re feeling a bit down about this, as I am, go grab an orange. These little balls of sunshine are packed full of vitamin C, and they’re a sweet infusion of goodness into your dreary winter day. Look for organic oranges, preferably unwaxed. Clemetines are great for instant snacks, as they peel easily and divide neatly into bite-sized sections. A great way to entice your kids into eating oranges, if they aren’t already...

From Regional Manager Alex Brown, we have the following recommendations: Living on Live Food, by Alissa Cohen. This book delves into how to eat raw and live foods and why they can be such healthful choices. You’ll get recipes, advice, meal plans, and even some before-and-after photos. The McDougall Quick & Easy Cookbook, by John A. McDougall and Mary McDougall. This cookbook is great for the busy plant-based eater who doesn’t have much time to plan and prepare meals. Inside are more than 300 healthy, whole-food recipes that take 15 minutes or less to prepare. Also included are time-saving tips for shopping and...

A Few Last-Minute Kitchen Gifts

Kim Campbell, our director of culinary education, has a few recommendations for last-minute gifts for your family’s chef.   Silicone Stainless Steel Kitchen Tongs: $10–$15 I use these tongs for tossing and turning vegetables that I roast in the oven. You can also use them for salads, grilling, and serving hot dishes.   Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer: $35–$45  This is a tabletop spiralizer that is very stable and includes three sets of blades. If you like to spiral or cut fancy raw vegetables, you will love this little machine. It’s a step up from the handheld spiralizer and works faster and with greater ease. I have both and much prefer this version. Paderno Handheld Spiralizer, 2-Blade: $19.95...

More Good Reads

Picking up where we left off on Monday, here are some more good reads from PlantPure team members for these long, cold (or maybe not-so-cold yet) winter nights. We hope you enjoy! Regional Manager Alex Brown shared with us a book that was instrumental in starting him on his plant-based journey: Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People, by Jennifer Cornbleet. Alex has an earlier edition, but there’s a new revised edition out with more recipes and nutritional information included with each recipe. This book is awesome for easy, no-cook, raw-food recipes for one or two people; recipes contain common ingredients and you won’t need a kitchen full of fancy appliances and utensils. Pod Director Laura Dietrich says she...
